Become A Peer Health Leader
Learn and earn by informing other emerging adults (18-24) to make better decisions about their health and wellness.
As a Get S.M.A.R.T. Peer Health Leader, you will be trained in Alcohol Abuse, Substance Abuse, and HIV/STI prevention and certified in the TIPs intervention. Armed with the proper training, you’ll be able to intervene and discuss HIV/AIDS and substance abuse information with peers (18-24) in your social networks.
Peer Health Leaders also assist the Get S.M.A.R.T. project in recruiting new emerging adults to be trained as peer health leaders, and they share health information with peers during Get S.M.A.R.T. outreach activities andevents. Incentives are provided to Peer Health Leaders for their participation.
-
Become A Role Model Advocate
Get S.M.A.R.T. Role Model Advocates are emerging adults from Morgan State University that are trained to distribute role model stories from real people and/or their personal story about alcohol and substance abuse or HIV/AIDs to empower and encourage other young adults to make informed decisions.
Role Model Advocates also distribute and share prevention materials within their social networks to their peers. Incentives are provided to Role Model Advocates for their participation
Have you or someone you know been affected by alcoholism (out of control drinking) or drug / substance abuse? Have you or someone you know been affected by HIV/AIDS or an sexually transmitted infection (STI)? Are you interested in sharing your story as a way to inspire other college students and young adults?
Get S.M.A.R.T Stories told by individuals of their personal experience (or via our Role Model Advocates that share other people’s stories) give emerging adults (18 – 24 years old) a reality check that being a young adult DOES NOT mean that you are invincible to the effects of drinking alcoholic beverages, smoking marijuana or using other illicit drugs, or that you can not contract HIV or an STI. When you share your story and the life lessons and successes you’ve had along your journey, you can inspire others to make better decisions for themselves.
